Betty Jane's Story

DUNNING, Betty Jane Fagerberg Honoring Betty Jane Fagerberg Dunning for her 95th Birthday, celebrating her life Nov. 15, 1921 - June 9, 2016. She passed away at Scottsdale Osborn Trauma Center the second day after a head-on collision with a drunk driver which put both she and her daughter JulieAnn Stone in the hospital with significant injuries. JulieAnn survived. l A remarkable woman with a strong mind, character, and determination to live, thrive and appreciate simple pleasures of life, love and family, Betty inspired many and was deeply loved by family and friends. She attended Living Word Bible Church. In keeping with Betty’s wishes, cremation was accorded and small private services were held in Mesa, Arizona at church, and also at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. l Born in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Jennie Bell Fraser, who passed in 1960 and Arnold Fagerberg Sr. who passed when she was a young girl. One of four children, she was predeceased by siblings Harry Hanson, Arnold Fagerberg Jr., and Jewel Franklin. Graduated High School in 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, she went to work, doing short-hand and typing, and helped her mother during the Great Depression. l Married to Ira Eugene “Gene” Dunning 20 years, they adopted two daughters, Julie and Lisa Dunning, and lived in South Kansas City on Tracy Street in Kansas City, Missouri until their divorce when the girls were 8 and 3-1/2 years. As a single mother, Betty drove every day over the State Line from Missouri to Kansas City, Kansas to work at Bethany Medical Center as Public Relations Executive Secretary until she retired. In 1990 she bought a home in Mesa, Arizona to be close to her daughters and their children. l Surviving relatives include two adult children, six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, as follows, based on region: Mesa and Phoenix, Arizona USA: Daughter JulieAnn Stone Ryan and husband Steve J. Ryan, Grandsons David Aaron Stone and Michael Jonathon Stone; The Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri: Daughter Lisa Louise Robbins-Foley, Grandsons Jackson Grant Foley and Justin Stephen Foley; Calgary, Alberta, Canada: Granddaughters, Jennifer Ashley Foley, Jessica Mercedes Foley Rook and husband Tyler Rook and Great Granddaughter, Mayla Jade Rook.
